Day 19
Glorious, truly glorious. The past few days were most interesting for our group. Our group has dwindled somewhat as we lost the evil member that had been with us from the start and the alchemist failed to show up as well. It is now just me, the sorceror, barbarian, and samuri. I am not concerned however as the events of the past few days showed to me that we worked well together.
We spent a few minutes debating between the bounty on the orc warlord or a new bounty posted on a group of ogres in the area. As the barbarian is of orcish blood and ogres are far harder to combat, we deigned to go after the ogres to test our skills. We set out from the town and had not gotten far before we came across a half orc who was suffering from several wounds given to him by a group of humans. We patched him up and then he moved along. Several minutes later we came across the group of humans and mislead them. The humans died shortly afterwards due to running into owlbears. A shame.
The next group we met was a small band of orcs who insisted that we accompany them to see their chief or warlord, the one the bounty was for. When we arrived at their camp we discovered that apparently Sol the Tosser is apparently one of the chosen ones that will revive the orcish people into a coherent nation. As such, he had to go through several trials. The first was to retrieve a boar called an irontusk, really a direboar. He could either return with four dead or one alive. We set out and came across one after a bit. Our plan and its execution were flawless. Sol pinned it and I calmed it with ease. As it became docile we drugged it with some tobacco that Sol had and he rode it back to camp. The warlord clearly had not expected us to succeed like that as there was another trial that night.
This time, through ceremonial means, two fire elementals were summoned to fight Sol and the sorceror, Kroze. Those two had deigned to accept some sort of tattoo that the orcs had been offering and so were close to the fire when the elementals appeared. I made my way through the crowd and Zaraki followed me. We battled the elementals then and quickly dispatched them.
Sidenote: Sol has the best weapon, a frying pan enchanted with fire.
We rested then for a few hours while trying to figure out what to do with the various rewards we had been showered with. I took a scimitar that Kroze enchanted with the ability to automatically freeze time for a second and strike independently. That is how I understand it. No doubt I will better understand how it works when I use it.
When Sol was healed up we set out to find the ogres and we quickly came across tracks that lead us to their campsite. We attacked the three guarding the entrance and tricked those inside that they were not under attack as we killed the three guards. I lost two fingers on my left hand in the process, a mildy annoying thing. After the three were dispatched we went in and discovered that the ogres had sealed the entrance with a boulder that had a fear rune on it.
Sol and Kroze reduced the boulder to rubble and then we moved in only to find nobody there. Kroze sent the bats he had summoned upstairs and it was quickly deduced by the lighting that hit them that the ogres went that way. We followed and the leader of the group, a oni mage attempted to get us to leave and attack the orc band instead. As we were decent friends with the orc band we declined and attacked.
The oni opened with cone of cold, a most troublesome opening move but Kroze counterspelled him and so we were spared the worst of it. I healed myself with the grace of god and struck out at the demon with the full extent of my powers. Sol did the same and we quickly wiped the arrogance the demon had displayed while negotating out of existence when Zaraki attacked as well. We quickly took down the demon at a pace that his ability to heal could not keep up with and the ogres that were with him died with him. We looted the area and then gave the numerous adventurers that had fought this demon peace by burning their bodies and bones. I acquired a composite longbow and a score of explosive arrows.
We went downstairs then and discovered something most odd, a room full of massive sheep. To a number they were all of the size of a horse with the ram of the group even bigger. The rest of the group each took one and Kroze forced the rest to come with. I would have taken one but I will be having a divine bond soon with my god and I will be taking a horse.
We returned to the town with the sheep in tow and left them in a secure spot. The rest of the group went to check in with their guild while I went to the church and had my longsword consecrated. My ability to damage evil doers has increased much this day.
The others returned then and we went to spend a bit of time by the sheep we had acquired. An event most amusing happened then; some corpulent noble attempted to ride one of the sheep and received the fate he so richly deserved as the animals quickly broke his back and neck.
Shortly after that, someone attempted to assassinate Kroze and we quickly put a stop to that. I acquired a few more explosive arrows and we discovered that whoever was behind this assassinations was going to strike at the mages in town next. That is where we are heading next.
I will need to acquire several items soon to better my skills. With Kroze’s assistance it should not be too difficult and I think that I will use his skills to craft one of the items I desire for everyone in the group. I will be acquiring a head band of charisma and a cloak of resistance, all items that will boost my ability to resist various things in different ways. In addition to those magic items I must also go and acquire some light horse armor for my steed Sprinkles. It seems that I am now able to summon it.
I must rest now. Tomorrow will no doubt be busy.
