Pathfinder- Ralen Bek

Day 20

Today was a busy day. We awoke and consulted our list of suspects and then went off to find the one that struck us as the most odd, an elf that the guild had no information on. Despite this lack of information, we quickly found him in an apartment in the noble district and after a very heated conversation with the gnome landlady and her pet owlbear we acquired access to his room.

Sadly, he was not our suspect despite the numerous maps and artifacts that he had in his possession that pointed towards a lifestyle of assassins. We let him go as it was quite easy to see he wasn’t responsible and then moved on to the mages college to make sure that whoever was going to be assassinated would stay alive. We contacted the one we felt most likely to be the target and then gathered the ones least able to defend themselves. As nothing was happening we sat down for some food and waited for this killer to emerge.

Naturally, our presence set everything awry and some beast escaped from its cage in the labs. The rest of the group went to deal with while I looked after our bait and they came back up pretty fast. We quickly left the building along with most of the mages college and watched it as the place got destroyed. The rest of the group informed me that they did not do it.

We headed back to the guild then and after some consulting with the leaders, went off to find another suspicious person. Kroze started a riot on the docks and we watched a prince get his money stolen from him. We also found the explosives expert we had set off to find and returned him to the guild. He was not responsible but he was able to point the way to a group who had been looking for someone to take the job. We convened with the leaders about this group and then called in the guard to assist us with their capture.

We set off for the house that this group was at and quickly forced our way inside. Several guardsmen died due to magical traps but we eventually got our way into the hidden areas of the place. We discovered then that the group was fleeing and so Sol went massive and chased down one of the groups with Kroze at his side. I confiscated some tomes that were present in the house and went off to meet them.
We took the leader of the assassins with us back to the guild hall and were enjoying a fine dinner when one of the leaders went down, dead due to poison, a very fast acting one at that. The hall was quickly locked down and we went about investigating, only to find that there was a being of chaos from the negative energy plane present. I drew up a protective circle around the main group while the rest of the group looked for something useful.

Sol acquired an upgrade to his eye that allowed him to see planar people and it was soon apparent that much of the group that was not us was possessed. I used a holy device that Kroze had found and seared many with holy light but that was not enough so I broke the device and an angel appeared. A low ranking one mind you but an angel none the less. Said angel took one look at the main focus of the possession and charged. It quickly lost that fight and so Sol and I took over while Kroze healed the angel in some way. Shortly after that, we drove the being from the body it was possessing and the angel struck out again while Kroze handed me the device that had held the angel. I quickly used it to seal away the chaos being and then it was over. Most of the guild was dead and so when given the choice, Sol, Kroze, and Zaraki opted to leave while they could. They shook down the place a bit, taking a few magic items with them and then we left, only to confront a massive crowd outside. We quickly decided to leave the city and the entire empire for other lands only to have Kroze draw a card from the deck of many things he had picked up. A dragon appeared and then he dropped the rest of the cards only to have them all activate.

We were all transported than to the realm between realms I believe. We all went our separate ways to talk to someone and I would up with my god. He thanked me for all I had done and then gave me a gift of a halo to forever light my way and keep me alive. The others got gifts as well I believe though I know not what they are. We were transported then back to the spot that we had left and found that the dragon was still there. Kroze quickly charmed it and ordered it to leave and then we went on our way to the east.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek

Day 19

Glorious, truly glorious. The past few days were most interesting for our group. Our group has dwindled somewhat as we lost the evil member that had been with us from the start and the alchemist failed to show up as well. It is now just me, the sorceror, barbarian, and samuri. I am not concerned however as the events of the past few days showed to me that we worked well together.

We spent a few minutes debating between the bounty on the orc warlord or a new bounty posted on a group of ogres in the area. As the barbarian is of orcish blood and ogres are far harder to combat, we deigned to go after the ogres to test our skills. We set out from the town and had not gotten far before we came across a half orc who was suffering from several wounds given to him by a group of humans. We patched him up and then he moved along. Several minutes later we came across the group of humans and mislead them. The humans died shortly afterwards due to running into owlbears. A shame.

The next group we met was a small band of orcs who insisted that we accompany them to see their chief or warlord, the one the bounty was for. When we arrived at their camp we discovered that apparently Sol the Tosser is apparently one of the chosen ones that will revive the orcish people into a coherent nation. As such, he had to go through several trials. The first was to retrieve a boar called an irontusk, really a direboar. He could either return with four dead or one alive. We set out and came across one after a bit. Our plan and its execution were flawless. Sol pinned it and I calmed it with ease. As it became docile we drugged it with some tobacco that Sol had and he rode it back to camp. The warlord clearly had not expected us to succeed like that as there was another trial that night.

This time, through ceremonial means, two fire elementals were summoned to fight Sol and the sorceror, Kroze. Those two had deigned to accept some sort of tattoo that the orcs had been offering and so were close to the fire when the elementals appeared. I made my way through the crowd and Zaraki followed me. We battled the elementals then and quickly dispatched them.

Sidenote: Sol has the best weapon, a frying pan enchanted with fire.

We rested then for a few hours while trying to figure out what to do with the various rewards we had been showered with. I took a scimitar that Kroze enchanted with the ability to automatically freeze time for a second and strike independently. That is how I understand it. No doubt I will better understand how it works when I use it.

When Sol was healed up we set out to find the ogres and we quickly came across tracks that lead us to their campsite. We attacked the three guarding the entrance and tricked those inside that they were not under attack as we killed the three guards. I lost two fingers on my left hand in the process, a mildy annoying thing. After the three were dispatched we went in and discovered that the ogres had sealed the entrance with a boulder that had a fear rune on it.

Sol and Kroze reduced the boulder to rubble and then we moved in only to find nobody there. Kroze sent the bats he had summoned upstairs and it was quickly deduced by the lighting that hit them that the ogres went that way. We followed and the leader of the group, a oni mage attempted to get us to leave and attack the orc band instead. As we were decent friends with the orc band we declined and attacked.

The oni opened with cone of cold, a most troublesome opening move but Kroze counterspelled him and so we were spared the worst of it. I healed myself with the grace of god and struck out at the demon with the full extent of my powers. Sol did the same and we quickly wiped the arrogance the demon had displayed while negotating out of existence when Zaraki attacked as well. We quickly took down the demon at a pace that his ability to heal could not keep up with and the ogres that were with him died with him. We looted the area and then gave the numerous adventurers that had fought this demon peace by burning their bodies and bones. I acquired a composite longbow and a score of explosive arrows.

We went downstairs then and discovered something most odd, a room full of massive sheep. To a number they were all of the size of a horse with the ram of the group even bigger. The rest of the group each took one and Kroze forced the rest to come with. I would have taken one but I will be having a divine bond soon with my god and I will be taking a horse.

We returned to the town with the sheep in tow and left them in a secure spot. The rest of the group went to check in with their guild while I went to the church and had my longsword consecrated. My ability to damage evil doers has increased much this day.

The others returned then and we went to spend a bit of time by the sheep we had acquired. An event most amusing happened then; some corpulent noble attempted to ride one of the sheep and received the fate he so richly deserved as the animals quickly broke his back and neck.

Shortly after that, someone attempted to assassinate Kroze and we quickly put a stop to that. I acquired a few more explosive arrows and we discovered that whoever was behind this assassinations was going to strike at the mages in town next. That is where we are heading next.

I will need to acquire several items soon to better my skills. With Kroze’s assistance it should not be too difficult and I think that I will use his skills to craft one of the items I desire for everyone in the group. I will be acquiring a head band of charisma and a cloak of resistance, all items that will boost my ability to resist various things in different ways. In addition to those magic items I must also go and acquire some light horse armor for my steed Sprinkles. It seems that I am now able to summon it.

I must rest now. Tomorrow will no doubt be busy.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek

Day 16
It has been a very few interesting past days. I returned from a sojourn in the woods seven days ago to find the town we had been staying at to have been destroyed. It would seem the barbarian has been enlarged and now stands at nine feet tall naturally. If an enlarged person spell is cast on him he becomes twenty five feet tall apparently. Due to an attack by mole people of some sort the city collapsed into the ground under his weight.

A most unfortunate accident.

We moved on to some other city than, a center of the area I believe for there is a king here. I took lodgings at the local temple while the rest lodged with the guild that they had joined. To assist the refugees from the destroyed town I gave a speech or two and managed to raise several thousand goldpieces for them.

I also assisted the local area by distributing some medicine to those who needed it. A few ruffians accosted me but the samuri and I scared them off. Some chaos came to the city then over the next few days and there seemed to be a rash of fires in the area. I am not certain as to why.
On the seventh day we were there, a small matter of a riot occurred due to a demon possessing a crowd at a concert which my companions happened to be at. The rioting crowd killed many guards and destroyed quite a few buildings before attempting to attack the local temple. With the assistance of several other paladins present I fought off several of the bolder attackers at which point the demon possessing them all left them for higher ground. The shadow demon attempted to escape then by turning invisible but my ability to detect evil was not fooled. The barbarian grabbed ahold of the demon as it took flight and piledrived it into the streets below, killing it and bringing down a portion of the building as he was in his twenty five foot form again.

We were rewarded for our services then by the king and I received a set of full plate armor that had been worn by a previous servant of Torag. I am not certain as to how he met his end but it was obviously in the area. The others received their rewards as well and now we have decided to pursue a local bounty of 10000 gold pieces on an orc warlord in the region. He has been destabilizing the local area apparently. I’m sure we’ll do fine.

Postscript

It seems my god favors me for I have gained the ability to use divine magic now. I am also blessed with the ability to channel positive energy and smite more evil on my adventures.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek-Day Six

Day Six

This was a truly eventful day for me. I awoke to find that several of my companions had gone off or been taken somewhere by magical means and were now equipped with new items of odd sorts. We also have an alchemist of sorts in the group now. The rogue has vanished it would seem. Hardly surprising. There was also a gnoll, a foul creature, in the room now. We did not delay and set off for the elevator to the lower levels than, taking this gnoll with us.

Alas, it would seem the elevator was a trap or perhaps we weighed too much for it as it collapsed when the first group went down. The gnoll died due to the fall and everyone else was okay with some damage. The rest of us climbed down on the rope and due to the commotion several kobolds entered the room with their mounts, a hideous creature called a slurk. They were quickly put down and we set off on the path that had the most travel upon it.

Several more kobolds fought us with one dying and the other retreating out of fear. We came across the one who had retreated soon after however and it attempted to barter with us, offering us items in exchange for my group leaving. We refused all offers that this peon gave us and demanded to speak the true authority in the area.

We were taken then through what remained to a throne room of the kobolds. There we questioned their king about the ritual whilst attempting to barter with him for the children and it was revealed to us that one of his brothers would be doing this ritual. We pointed out that this would be a prime opportunity for a usurpation and he agreed with us, executing the shaman quite quickly after he reached that conclusion after our argument.

However, the freedom of the children was not something so easily won. The king challenged me to a duel and as I am a paladin I accepted. His servants healed me, attempting to dull my reflexes then but a potion the barbarian had quickly fixed the matter. Combat was entered then in a hastily set up arena that canceled out arcane magic. I struck him several times with my ability to smite evil and we both threw each other into the boundaries of the arena, receiving shocks in the process until I fell.

When I awoke due to my god healing me for fighting well I found all but one of the kobolds to be dead or intoxicated. I destroyed the dagger the shaman had on him then and with the assistance of another brother of the now deceased kobold king we acquired the children and a companion of the halfling we had saved.

On the way out I killed the slattern responsible for this whole mess, the deceased kings wife. The summoner had wanted her as a slave but I said no and the matter was settled with the death of the kobold.

We then took all the children back to the town and were rewarded in various manners. One gave us nothing, another gold, the butcher has promised free meat to any of us, the ranger gave us the gold promised, and the last one, a necromancer, attempted to give us a halfling skeleton. I refused the last and so we settled on a spell for the sorceror.

I felt my god imbue me with more power than and he spoke to me of the powers I now have. I am now immune to all types of fear and I now have immunities to all diseases. Both are strike me as useful abilities though this immunity to fear gives me a bit of a pause. Fear is a useful thing to have. In addition, I acquired my first mercy and decided to acquire the ability to deal with shaken people.

To finish out the day we went to the blacksmith again and discovered that he had been replaced with another. I acquired a masterwork heavy wooden shield after several members of the group vanished into the back room with the new smith. I suspect we have a new job to do. I will find out later.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek-Day Five

Day Five
This was a most difficult day. I am not sure how many we killed on this day but it was many. Our first fight began right after we were all woken by a sound. Upon investigating the sound we discovered the cause to be a large spider. It was quickly killed and the barbarian took a bite out of it for some reason. He did not look so well after that. I do not understand some people.

Upon opening another secret door we came across a group of kobold and killed all but one for questioning. He told us where several of the children were and so we set out, following the sounds of a fight coming from ahead. We came across two of the children then along with a halfling from an adventuring company. We took another kobold for questioning and then the halfling told us of how there was a third child on this floor who had been taken by some creature of dwarven origin. An undead of some sorts.

After making sure the children would be okay with the halfling we set out to find this dwarven thing and came across another group of kobolds of which we subdued two. They revealed no new information about the dwarven creature and so we proceeded after knocking them out.

We encountered a hound of hell at the dwarf’s door and killed it with some difficulty on account of the half orc. The dwarf came next with the summoner’s eidolon rushing to grab the child away while I moved to strike the dwarven creature, a forge spurned. I struck with my ability to smite evil and did some serious damage. It was discovered then that this creature could heal quickly and it attempted to strike back at me. Torag must have shielded me from this strike for it only managed to hit itself with its chain.

It took several more hits for the forge spurned to die and then I set loose the souls of those the dwarven undead had captured. We awoke the child and set off back to where the other two and the halfling were so that we could rest from our wounds.

I must sleep now for we will be going downward after the other children soon. Given the difficulty of this floor I suspect that we may not all live. I must be at my best.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek-Day Four

Day Four
The matter of the child we met yesterday was settled during the night as she appeared to us in her true form, revealing the evil I felt yesterday to be caused by her being a werewolf. I have to wonder when she became afflicted with this illness. She had stated she had been at the orphanage when it had been standing so perhaps she is the reason for its destruction or maybe she was afflicted with the illness during the years since its destruction. Perhaps werewolves were behind the destruction of the orphanage and bit her in the process.

A mystery for another day.

We continued on our journey and came across a giant who had lost his ring and we assisted him in finding it. We continued into the monastery again for the second time in these few days and fought several skeletons before finding the room that was where we had killed the worg the other day. It seems the kobolds had gone through here and the wolf was gone, skeleton and all.

We descended and came across our first group of kobolds, a mixture of slaves and warriors. As per my gods ethos I knocked out one slave while all the others perished. We questioned the survivor and then moved through a room with some interesting lizards and then through a room of traps. The traps were deactivated by the halfling and then we proceeded again.

After going through several secret doors we came across an allip and slew it. Moments later we found the person the allip had come from and killed a homunculus that was guarding the skeletal remains.

We rested then so those with magic could restore their abilities.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek-Day Three

Day Three
I awoke to the sounds of an explosion and found our ranger to be dead due to a goblin from a group we had fought in the forest. I rue now that we let one run away. I had thought the survivor would have been too terrified to do anything but it would seem not.

As morning came the ranger who had aided us came to seek our aid in a personal matter. It seemed his child had gone missing and we agreed to assist him. Some of the group asked for payment and then the halfling went and asked around. It seems that the children had headed for destroyed orphanage in the outskirts of town that had been burnt down some ten years ago. It would seem that this is a local dare of sorts that is common amongst children.

We set out and arrived at the orphanage without delay or distraction. There was little left as it had been burned down some time ago and we found no signs that anyone but us had been at this orphanage recently. A small torture room was discovered by the halfling that was now populated by a group of spiders. The spiders were killed and then we set off back to town, watching for side paths or camps that the kids might have used.

A small child came out of the woods then, telling us that she knew where the missing kids were and despite her obvious lying we followed her as there were no other leads. Then we came upon the brother of our deceased ranger, a half orc barbarian who had taken to drinking as a result of the tragedy. He joined us and after examining the campsite we determined that there were kobold scales everywhere. Given the girls lying earlier I decided to see if I could tell if she was evil. She most definitely was.

I was going to attempt to kill her when the sorceror set a tree on fire and the girl escaped in the confusion. I was most irritated with this development. We found her path to be going in a different direction than the one the kobolds had gone and so we put her out of our mind for the moment.

We continued on then, discovering the kobolds were heading to the monastery we had just visited and then stopped to rest for the night.

Pathfinder-Ralen Bek-Day Two

Day Two
We awoke and continued to explore the monastery. It was not long before we came across a chamber that held a wolf that could talk! The size of it was massive, quite bigger than any others I had ever seen or that we had fought on the way here. A brief negotiation followed with the wolf and he revealed that he had more then enough of the mushrooms we still needed to acquire. The ranger stated that the beast had no intention of giving us what we wanted and thus it attacked us. The ranger took several blows from falling rocks along with the wolf and then was savaged by the wolf as well. We all attacked the wolf then while the ranger fell back and I determined that the wolf was evil using my abilities given to me by Torag. As the others did some damage through various blows I struck twice killing it with my holy blows, making the wolf, or perhaps a worg, a piece of smeared wall art with my second strike.

The others took what treasure they could find and then we went back to town with all the ingredients. Payment was acquired from our contact and then most of the group has a weapon improved by a local blacksmith before we celebrated a job well done.

Pathfinder- Ralen Bek- Day One

Day One
I started my adventures today in service of my god Torag as a paladin in the town of Falcon’s Hollow. I hope I can live up to the standards my god aspires to.

The rest of the people I am in a group with are an interesting lot. There is a halfling who is likely a thief of sorts, a half-elf sorceror, a ranger, someone who calls himself a samuri, and a drow who is a summoner. Perhaps the samuri is like a paladin in a different land. That will be a mystery for another day. I will be keeping my eye on the summoner for the drow are an unreputable race.

A contact in some guild that the halfling associates with contacted us with a job in the area. It seems there is a plague in the area that is resisting all attempts to be cured. The others bargained for payment with this contact and then we set off to consult with a local alchemist. She set us off to acquire three ingredients that she said could be used for a cure: some old moss from a tree, some root called rattail, and seven of a certain type of mushroom. Ironbloom I believe.

We stopped at a logging camp to consult with a local ranger about possible places to find these three ingredients and set off then. A hobgoblin ambushed us on the way to find the moss and was dispatched with ease though the halfling took a bit of damage. The sorceror give him a potion for healing. When I am given the ability to cast spells by my god I will become the healer of the group.

We found the moss first in a clearing after fighting a wyrm of sorts. We set off then for another place, a witch’s hut on the edge of a lake. On the way a giant mosquito of sorts attacked us and we slaughtered it with ease. At the witch’s hut we were attacked by a cauldron of all things. I am not actually sure if we killed it but it stopped moving after a while.

Our last destination was a dwarven monastery and when we arrived several wolves attacked, an odd behavior as there are six of us and there were two of them. Something is odd here. We deliberated then about which way to go and acquired two mushrooms after fighting several more wolves and two creatures that are unknown to me. After killing the wolves we rested.

A start

So, why a blog?

Well, to be honest, I have no idea but it sounds like fun, throwing out my opinion on things for random friends and people on the internet to read.

So, let’s talk about things that will be on this blog of mine. At the moment, I plan for posts about characters I have in Pathfinder, random blurbs about bits of history I love, posts about my life, and posts about what I think should be.

We’ll see how well I stick to that.
